Illy Coffee at Italian El Fresco

@ Empire Shopping Mall
Found this nice italian restaurant right inside the supermarket at the new Empire shopping mall. They use illy coffee beans (dark roast) and while skeptical at first, it was really good. The type of coffee i like - strong, creamy and dark! They don't have low fat milk though (the only minus point). A cuppa cost RM6.00.

Also tried 2 other joints (3 cappucino in a day!!!), one was Espresso -The Whisk. They used Bristot but I think they're still adjusting to the right brew - coffee looks nice but tasted a bit watery (RM8.50). Nothing beats The Loaf - it was really lousy coffee - watery, does not taste of coffee or milk (RM6.50) - highly not recommended =)
Getting there: The shopping mall is just opposite Wisma Consplant/Subang Parade. Go to the lowest floor and look for the supermarket. The restaurant is within the supermarket.

Chicken & prawn sa hor fun at Tmn Tun

@ Chong Tong Kee, Jln Wan Kadir
This is a favourite sa hor fun joint for me and family! They're generous with their ingredients - chicken slices, prawn and hor fun!
Best to arrive in mid morning vs. first to the restaurant so that you'll get the full flavor of the soup after hours of boiling! It's true - come a bit earlier and it just doesn't taste the same.

I also recommend the chicken (very tender) and ask them to heat it up a bit (in the soup) so that it's served warm vs. a bit cold! The tau geh (bean
sprouts) are also crunchy - Ipoh style!

Getting there: Drive to Taman Tun Dr. Ismail housing area. This shop is just opposite the Tmn Tun market (pasar) parking lot. You would not miss it!

Sate, Fried Quail at Sate Zul

@ Kuantan Town
This was introduced to me by my wife (a kuantan girl) and since then, I'm a regular here whenever I'm visiting Kuantan. They have a variety of satay to choose from - chicken, beef, lamb (~RM0.80-1.00) etc!

I tried all 3 and it was really nice, meat was succelent and had nice charcoal burnt flavor! Only put off was that they do include some skin/fat in between for those who love it! I'm more of a lean meat lover! The sauce was full of peanuts, right mixture of sweet and spicyness!

I also tried my first roast quail (RM4.50). Interesting, but tastes more like chicken meat, a bit tougher due to the loads of exercise they do!

Getting there: At Kuantan town, head towards Teluk Cempedak (a famous hangout beach for both locals & tourist) or head towards Hyatt Kuantan. Along the way you'll get to Jalan Teluk Sisek. This satay joint is at a cross junction traffic lights on your left! Or, if you're lost, ask the locals, they would be able to guide you!

Curry Laksa, Cendol at Pappa Rich

@ Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam
Had a try of the curry laksa at Pappa rich. Was not dissapointed. Compared to Old Town, this had more ingredients and felt more worth it for the price you're paying (RM8.90 per bowl). It has fish cakes, cockles, chicken, tau pok and beancurd! Yummy! The curry was really thick and creamy.

The cendol was also pretty good at RM4.50. Ice was a bit hard though (i guess they made in advance and froze it) but the taste more than compensates it.

Getting there: Kota Kemuning can be accessible via Kesas Highway. At roundabout, turn right and make another right turn. You'll see Mcdonalds on the right and if you drive a bit further, you'll see Pappa Rich opposite (diagonally) across Mcdonalds

Duck noodles at Pun Chun

@ Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam
Had my first try at their outlet in Bidor and then when I found out that there's a branch at Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, I was a happy man! My favourites here are the duck drumstick noodles (dry version) and the stewed chicken legs with mushroom! Noodles cost you RM6.8 while the chicken legs RM3.50.

Getting there:
Get to Kota Kemuning (accessible via Kesas highway). Turn right at the roundabout and then make a right turn to the shops at the 3rd entry (same block as the Hicom Gamuda showroom)

Nasi Lemak & Tea at Teh Tarik Place

@ The Curve
This place opens at 8am and is an excellent place for breakfast. I had a packet of nasi lemak (rice cooked with coconut milk and condiments) and teh tarik (pull tea). It's been a while since I had nasi lemak and this did not dissapoint me! The chili was just nice (not too spice), the rice fragrant, soft and it came with the usual half boil egg, anchovies and peanuts. Complements well with the teh tarik - which was excellent - well balanced of tea flavor and sweetness! Yummy! Packet of nasi lemak costs RM2 and the tea RM2.20

Getting there: Go to The Curve shopping mall at Damansara Perdana. Walk towards the restaurants area - this is located near the MBK Fruit Stalls.

Scones at Pastis

@ Gardens Midvalley
Had visited this place a couple of times. Their desserts are not bad but drinks so so (cappucino I tried was oklah). So, this time, we tried the scones. Was looking for something that my son could try. And he loved it! The scones were buttery, soft and moist! Complements well with the cream and strawberry jam that came with it.

Getting there: Go to Midvalley Gardens. This cafe is situated at the Ground Floor just at the entrance to Isetan.
